Storytelling

“The Lost Boys of Sudan”

The Goal of “One Book, One Philadelphia,” a program started by the Free Library of Philadelphia, is to promote reading, literacy and libraries, and to encourage the entire greater Philadelphia area to come together through reading and discussing a single book. This year, the program selected Dave Eggars’ novel What is the What, a tale based on a real Sudanese cival war suvivor. Our Storytelling event will feature two “Lost Boys of Sudan” who currently reside in Philadelphia and whose real life stories are reflected in the novel. They will share with us personal experiences including life on refugee camps and the hardship of adjusting to life in the United States.

They also provide a forum to exchange perspectives at a personal level on experiences such as war, civil rights marches, parenting issues, and illness.
